Virtual Drums
Why Play Virtual Drums?
A drum kit in the browser removes every excuse between having an idea and hearing it. No sticks, no noise complaints, no setup — just a beat whenever the groove finds you.
🥁 Learning rhythm
Coordination is everything behind a kit. Tapping kick-and-snare patterns on the keyboard builds the same limb-independence fundamentals, silently and at zero cost.
🎸 Jamming and songwriting
Guitarists and singers need a beat to play against. Load a groove, record your riff over it, and the song starts arranging itself.
🌙 Sketching at any hour
Real drums wake the house. Record a groove here at 2 a.m., export the WAV, and drop it into your DAW in the morning.
How to Play the Drums Online
How to Play by Mouse or Keyboard
- Click any drum or cymbal, or use the keys printed on each piece: Q W E R T for the crashes, toms and ride, A S D F for hats, snare and floor tom, Space for kick.
- Pieces flash as they sound, and the piece you just played is named above the kit.
- Load a built-in groove — seven of them, from rock and funk to jazz, tribal toms and reggae — and play along, or keep your own time.
How to Record Your Beat
- Press ● Record and play your groove — every hit, with its velocity, is captured.
- ▶ Play recording replays it on the kit with all the flashes.
- ⬇ Download WAV renders the exact same sounds offline into an audio file, ready for a DAW or a friend.

Kick, snare, high and mid toms, floor tom, hi-hat, ride and two crashes — laid out like a real kit with photo-realistic pieces.
⌨️ Two-handed keyboard mapping
Cymbals and toms under the left hand, snare-side under the right, kick on the space bar — printed right on the drums.

Recorded one-shot samples for the toms, ride and crashes; a locally synthesized kick, snare and hi-hat. Everything plays the instant you hit it.
👟 A hi-hat that behaves
Strike it open for a wash, closed for a tick — the plates physically separate and close like a real pedal.
⏺ Record and export WAV
Capture your groove with velocities intact and render it to audio offline — what you heard is what you get.
🎵 Seven starter grooves
Basic Rock, Heavy Rock, Funk, Boom Bap, Jazz Ride, Tribal Toms and One Drop play themselves on the kit — watch the pattern, then jam over it.
What Drummers Say About the Virtual Kit
"I keep it open while learning guitar — tapping out a beat on the keyboard is faster than firing up a DAW, and the grooves are great to jam along with."
Jonas W.
Guitar Student & Bedroom Songwriter
"Teaching rhythm to kids with this is a dream. The open/closed hi-hat detail sold me — nothing else free in the browser bothered to get that right."
Alina K.
Music Teacher, K-8 General Music
"Sketching drum ideas at midnight without waking the house. Record, export WAV, drop it in the DAW in the morning. Exactly what I needed."
Marcus D.
Producer, Home Studio Owner
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this virtual drum kit free?
Yes — free, no registration, nothing to install. It runs entirely in your browser.
How do I play the drums with my keyboard?
Q W E R T play the two crashes, high tom, mid tom and ride. A S D F play the closed hi-hat, snare, open hi-hat and floor tom. The space bar plays the kick drum.
How are the drum sounds made?
The toms, ride and both crashes play recorded one-shot samples of real drums, while the kick, snare and hi-hat are synthesized locally in your browser — a pitch-dropping sine kick and a tone-plus-noise snare. No plugins, no accounts, nothing leaves your machine.
Can I record my drumming?
Yes. Press Record, play, then replay your groove or download it as a WAV file, rendered offline from the exact same sounds you heard while playing.
Does the drum kit work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The kit scales and scrolls on small screens, and every piece responds to touch.
Where to Go From Here
Every song needs a beat, a chord progression and a melody. You've got the beat — scroll back up, hit Record, and lay one down; then take the rest of the band with you.
Write patterns in the music sequencer, look up chords with the chord finder, play the online piano or thevirtual guitar, tune with the guitar tuner, or find your voice type with the vocal range test.
