Online Piano

Play the piano right in your browser — click or drag across the keys, or use your computer keyboard. Every note is synthesized live on your device, with a sustain pedal and octave shifting built in.

Three Ways to Play the Online Piano

1

Click and Drag

Click any key to strike a note, or press and drag across the keyboard to run a glissando — every key you sweep over sounds, just like brushing the real thing.

2

Use Your Keyboard

The letters A to ; play the white keys of the base octave and W E T Y U O P the black keys. Press Z or X to shift the octave and reach the whole five-octave range.

3

Hold the Pedal

Toggle Sustain or press the space bar to hold the damper pedal: notes keep ringing after you let go, exactly like the right pedal on an acoustic piano. Release it and they fade.

⬇ Record and Export WAV

Hit Record, play your piece — pedal and all — then play it back with the keys lighting up, or download it as a standard WAV file. The export is rendered offline in your browser from the same synthesis engine, so what you hear is exactly what you get. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

🎵 Demo Songs with Follow-Along

Pick Twinkle Twinkle, Ode to Joy, the opening of Für Elise or Happy Birthday and watch the performance play itself — every key lights up as it sounds, at the song's natural tempo. It's the fastest way to learn a melody by watching where it lives.

⏱ Metronome and Scale Highlighting

A sample-accurate metronome (40–220 BPM, 2/3/4/6 beats per bar with an accented downbeat) keeps you honest while practicing. Choose a root and scale and the keyboard tints every in-scale key — roots glow brightest — the same way our virtual guitar fretboard does.

A Piano Synthesized in Your Browser

This virtual piano doesn't ship a single audio file. Each note is computed the moment you play it, using additive synthesis: a series of harmonics whose amplitudes and decay rates follow the physics of a struck string — higher partials fade faster, and every partial rings slightly sharp the way real piano strings do. A short burst of filtered noise adds the hammer's strike, and low notes ring for several seconds while the top of the keyboard dies away quickly, just like an acoustic instrument.

The keyboard spans C2 to C7 — five octaves, sixty-one keys — with every C labelled and a toggle to name all of them. It's a practical scratchpad for melodies and chords, a way to learn note names, or simply something to noodle on when a piano isn't at hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this online piano free?

Yes. It is completely free, needs no registration, and nothing is installed — it runs entirely in your browser.

Can I play the piano with my computer keyboard?

Yes. The letter keys A through ; play the white keys of the base octave, W E T Y U O P play the black keys, Z and X shift the octave down or up, and the space bar holds the sustain pedal.

How does the online piano produce sound?

Every note is synthesized in your browser with additive synthesis: several harmonics that each decay at their own rate, slightly stretched like real piano strings, plus a short hammer-noise transient. No audio files are downloaded and nothing is sent to a server.

Can I change the piano sound?

Yes. The Sound menu offers seven timbres rendered from the same synthesis model: a full Concert Grand, warmer and brighter grand variants, a Mellow grand, a Bright Piano that cuts through a mix, and a Honky-tonk with deliberately detuned string pairs for that barroom character. Switching previews the new sound instantly, and recordings export with the timbre you selected.

Can I record what I play and download it?

Yes. Press Record, play your performance — the sustain pedal is captured too — then play it back on the keyboard or download it as a WAV file, rendered locally at full quality.

Does the piano include demo songs and a metronome?

Yes. Four built-in songs play themselves with the keys lighting up to follow along, and a metronome covers 40–220 BPM in 2/3/4/6 with an accented downbeat. You can also highlight any major, minor, pentatonic or blues scale on the keyboard.

Does the online piano work on phones and tablets?

Yes. On small screens the keyboard scrolls horizontally and keys respond to touch, so you can tap or drag across the keys.
